Outside of Work
I enjoy a host of outdoor sports. I tend to Rock Climb as much as possible, I find that it is a great all round workout but do it mainly for the fact that it always puts you right on the edge, metaphorically and literally. There’s nothing like pushing yourself beyond your limits, even if you dont want to do something, you’ll usually find you loved it retrospectively. Its the times where you feel most scared, worn down and drained out that you’ll remember. I love all types of boarding, including Surfing. Living near the welsh coast gives a host of opportunities if you have the time. I recently discovered Snowboarding too, not a lot of snow around Wales but having that high speed agility really gives you something not many other sports do.
Coming from a large sporting background, I enjoy many regular sports. I have represented my school, youth club, college, club and university in basketball, and now coach a local team of 12-16 year olds, and play on a senior side. Have played club Squash and Badminton also, having toured Britain with my County playing parents. Also played club football for Blackwood Town FC. Team sports really give a sense of discipline and team work and if you’re willing to give a hundred percent, you’ll get back what you give in pride.
For the first two years of my degree, I also took Bsc Geology, which I’ve enjoyed since I was very young and would love to continue with Geology in the future.
I like to socialise and be around friends as well as making new ones. I also enjoy my field of study at University and doing research in it, while running observing sessions for freshers and second years at my University. I have an array of personal telescopes and often run observing sessions for friends and family as well as being a keen astrophotographer. As well as astrophotography, I do enjoy regular photography, an album of my best photos will soon be available online.
Currently I present on the radio at GTFM (107.9 in the area or www.gtfm.co.uk around the world). Presenting really is a passion of mine, it takes me back to putting yourself on the edge and enjoying things retrospectively. Live radio is one of those things that can be quite daunting, but it mixes presenting with music which, for me, is two of my favourite things. I do try and get to as many live gigs as possible and keep up with the music scene. Theres a whole wealth of music out there for everyone and its something that really does unite nations.
It’s difficult trying to fit everything into the time we’re given, but the time in which we live our lives get shorter by the second. I’d hate to feel I hadn’t lived my life to the fullest. I would also hate to think I failed to inspire some people along the way. Maybe, for me, I just want people to see the things that I do, and say, “I want to do that, that’s how I want to live my life!”. If you lead by example, you’re always at there pushing the boundaries, leading the field, with others looking on and hopefully putting on their daps to follow.
